Persian Gulf ,Somalia ect...he doesn't talk to me about all he has experienced....starving children is really the only thing he has discussed with me. I'm so humbled by his zen attitude and the way he is so easy going USUALLY...but when his ptsd is "kickin" as he puts it..he has terrible nightmare stares off in space looses track of time...the VA here is good and he talks to his "shrink" but he REFUSES meds...of any kind. I can hardly get him to take an Advil...pls...need advice....TY

My whole life has been around military Vets. My Grandfather was WWII, my Dad was Vietnam, and now my husband is Iraq. I thought I could live with the issues my husband has and goes through, after all, I was brought up as these things being the "norm" Also, I have a bachelor's degree in psychology. BUT it is so much different being the wife of the Vet who suffers from PTSD. It's devastatingly hurtful. I feel guilty looking at other married couples and wishing my husband could be loving, intimate, or even involved. I'm at a cross roads, I guess. He's made several "half" efforts to change his behaviors. Nothing works. My Dad told him that his experience can either consume him or he can choose to deal with it and live. I'm truly think his time in Iraq has not only consumed him, it's devoured him.

New Jersey, where we run the NJ Self-Help Group Clearinghouse.
We would like to consider adding mention of your online mutual support group to our modest database of available online self-help (i.e., peer-run) mutual support neetworks. Would someone be able to kindly contact me and answer just a few brief questions?

In any case, best to you in your continued good works. - Ed

Hello Everyone. I am the Respite Director for a national non profit Wounded Warriors Family Support and we have started a new respite program for the caregivers of our nation's wounded and fallen. You can apply for our program under the caregiver tab at our website www.wwfs.org or by contacting me at [email protected]. This is not a program to take away from your support group but to help in getting childcare or caregivers so you can go to the retreats, meetings, etc. We are also looking for local families in Omaha area to attend some FREE equine retreats at Take flight farms for caregivers. Have a blessed day and I hope to hear from some of you soon. Wendy

I can't stand the loneliness. I'm tired of being told it's my own fault. It's good to know I'm not alone.

I am engaged to a man that had been awarded 100% last Dec for PTSD and other things because of his time in Vietnam. I have been looking for women that have experience with being with a man that is haunted daily. I hope to learn all I can and maybe be of help and support to others.

When I married my husband 8 years ago,I had no idea he had PTSD. After living 2 years with a man with huge emotional outbursts and anger triggers over the smallest things,I found Sarge's website after much prayer, and learned his trouble was PTSD.
I'm joining to help other women going through the same thing.
I've learned much about PTSD these past 8 years and how persistant I have to be in fighting at times with the VA to get correct meds to help him, even when they think they have it right.
I have my own battle scars going through this process and have learned a lot of what works and what does not.
I believe in my husband,I'm proud of him and will fight for him,he is very much worth it.

I'm 35 yrs old, married 11 yrs, with two children ages 3 and 2. My husband did two deployments to Afghanistan immediately after September 11th. He was an infantry soldier. I knew within weeks of his first return that something wasn't right. He was angry and very short tempered. Not the same man that had left just 6 months prior. For the past 10 years, things have just spiraled downward. The last two years, being the worst. He was officially diagnosed with PTSD last year. I'm hoping to learn more and become stronger by connecting with some of you. I'm reaching out in so many directions in despiration to save my family.

I am 38 years old and my husband was shot in Iraq 2005 and was medically discharged in 2006. His anniversary is in November so our household is very stressful and I feel lonely and miserable. So I am glad I found this site because I need to communicate with others that have the same problems with their vets. There is not a lot of support for spouse that deal with PTSD with thier vets. I am new to forums but I think it will be very helpful. Thank you everyone for sharing and being there.

My husband is a vet from Iraq. He has TBI and PTSD. I am first trying to understand his condition and want to learn how to prevent triggering any of the symptoms. As well as meet people that are dealing with the same thing, that way I know I am not alone in this
