I wish I had found this group years ago. I've been searching the internet at random over the years but never found much for women of PTSD suffering vets, or second-hand PTSD.
I look forward to participating here - I have a lot of experience understanding the pain of loving a Vietnam Vet with full-blown complex PTSD!

My boyfriend (more than just boyfriend--up until reccently he was talking marriage/kids etc. and now is acting withdrawn and numb with night terrors) just got back from Afghanistan and he's not himself at all showing many of the PTSD symptoms. I'm hoping he will adjust to being back soon and the symptoms will be less. Although he just found out in Aug, he's already deploying again so I hope he has enough time to heal.

I have recently began dating a guy with PTSD. I have read numerous articles both professional and personal that deal with living with, dating and being married to someone with PTSD. His case is mild compared to some of the stories I have read. I have also done some serious thinking about whether or not this is a relationship I am willing to undertake. After some serious consideration, I have realized that I do want this relationship. I know I can't cure him or fix him and honestly, I don't want to do either. I mainly just want a support network so that I can better understand what is going on, seek support from women who have been through it and to get suggestions from others on how to deal with certain issues that may arise.

My husband, a proud, honorably discharged, Purple Heart recipient,50% disabled since 1972 ,vietnam vet has recently, after a long fight, been given 100% disability. Although he has been fighting for this for four years, he was only given back pay for three months. He has an advocate through American Legion and I would like to know what the next step would be?

What can I say? I think it takes someone else who knows about walking on eggshells to really understand. Some days are better than others, but the ptsd is always there.

I just found this web site thanks to Vicky, I live in a rural communit. Even though we are one of the largest counties in Oregon, which in itself is a huge state, our small population of just under 7,000 often gets the pressing situation Vets encounter, ones just as pressing as in big cities, feeling ignored and neglected. I hope the forum can fill a much needed gap. I belong to a newly formed committee here locally working to address some of those issues with the help of our local VA - that local meaning 160 miles away! The unique beauty of our part of Oregon continues to draw a growing numebr of Vets struggling with PTSD - my husand and myself among them. Unfortunately while living here assists with the healing process it often, sadly, is soon discovered for something else - it lacks good access to care specifically mental health care for VETS. Vets love the tranquil non pressing laid back community which indeed promotes healing, but it also appears to keep indviduals from reaching a better place in life. It seems to halt the fall, but prevents the cure or at least help people reach and maintain what their city cousins have. We are working towards adapting and adjusting matters to finally have something better to offer, rather than just sitting here and enjoying the wonderful view.

I have been in a committed relationship for 5 months and am moving in with my boyfriend today. He did three tours in Iraq with the Marine Corps and every minute of his day seems to be affected by his PTSD. Now that we are moving in together I am looking for support and suggestions from others. It was a huge relief to find this community and I would love to be a part of it.
